Hunts...

Elk

Arizona offers some of the best elk hunting to be found anywhere. Being drawn for a tag is difficult, but the opportunity to kill the ultimate bull does exist.

Archery hunts begin in September during the rut. This is a time when aspens are changing color in the high country and love-sick bulls bugle often, which makes locating them easier. During this period you will also see bulls challenging each other for supremacy. Archery hunts are conducted in higher elevations with calling and tree stand the method of choice.

The first of October brings Arizona's most coveted elk hunts, muzzleloader and early rifle. These hunts are during the peak of the rut when some exceptional bulls are lured out from their hiding places for love. These hunts are mobile following several different bulls during the day.

November elk hunts are favorites. Hunts are conducted on foot and horseback. Spot and stalk, similar to hunting deer and antelope, is the most productive method. November elk hunts can be physically demanding as elevation range from 6,000 to 9,000 feet in remote rugged country with no roads. Once a bull is spotted, a stalk is planned and shots over 300 yards are common. Most bulls in this area are mature bulls.

The five-day hunt is conducted using comfortable wall tents with propane heat. Hunts are one-on-one and the cost for five days is $3,900, or $3,000 for two-on-one. Customized hunts can be arranged . No more than four hunters allowed unless otherwise requested. Youth hunter discount 20%. Also available are archery elk, muzzleloader and early rifle in unit 1 and 27. November hunts are in unit 27.
