Deer: Coues Whitetail

Coues DeerArizona's "Grey Ghost", the coues deer, is one of the smallest deer species of the whitetail deer. This small, elusive deer is one of the most popular deer to hunt and one of the most challenging of the deer species. One of our hunter this year agreed, "Conditions for coues deer are similar to sheep hunting." Hunters should be physically fit.

The country these deer inhabit is some of the most beautiful, rugged country in the United States. They are found from the desert floor to over 8,000 feet.

Hunts begin in October, November and December (during the rut). Tags are allocated by drawing with December the most popular time to hunt.

Hunting techniques require hiking or climbing to a vantage point and spending hours glassing through high power binoculars on tripods. Once a buck is spotted and evaluated, a stalk is planned to get within shooting range which can be over 500 yards, but expect shots to be 350 yards or less.

We offer hunts in units 27, 28, 31 and 32. Hunts cost $2,200 for four days. October hunts are four days and cost $2,000. Additional days can be arranged for additional fees. All hunts are one-on-one with discount for two-on-one if desired.

Deer: Mule Deer

Arizona mule deer live in a variety of terrain from the desert floor of Southern Arizona to foothills for the desert mule deer and upper elevations, pine forest and upper desert for the Rocky Mountain mule deer. Our hunting style varies with spot and stalk techniques similar to coues deer hunting. And riding into remote country where "Big" bucks hang out. The most productive huning is to sit and glass miles of country with high powered binoculars mounted on tripods. Horseback hunting helps hunters get into remote wilderness areas and hunt deer that are not disturbed. We offer many hunts in unit 27, 28, 31 and 32. Hunts begin in October and second hunt in November. We prefer the October hunt as deer are not distrurbed and weather is pleasant. Fully guided hunts are one on one at a cost of $2000 for a typice five day hunt. Accomadations range from ranch house to spike camps or comfortable wall tent camps. Our units have some very remote rugged areas which few people know how to get around in (Unit 27). Youth hunts discounted 20%.
